Armstrong Elementary Brick School - Building the Armstrong Elementary School Garden

Building the Brick School Garden

This spring, the Armstrong Elementary School PAC, teachers, and community volunteers teamed up to build a brand-new school garden for our kids. This project has been in the works for over a year, and we’re thrilled to see it taking shape with the help of our school community.

This project would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of our local donors and the dedicated volunteers who gave their time, tools, skills, and hearts to make the garden a reality.

The School Garden Construction Process

The Armstrong Elementary School Garden was built in the spring of 2025 through a combination of contracted work and an incredible amount of community volunteer effort.

The fencing contractor installed the ornamental metal deer fence in February 2025. This secure, attractive fence marked the start of the physical build of the new school garden.

On April 12, 2025, we held a large community Work Party Build Day. More than 50 volunteers, including Vernon She Shed members, AES families, and local community members, came together to prepare the ground and construct the cedar raised beds. It was an amazing day of teamwork, laughter, and shared purpose.

Volunteers have been returning each weekend to complete construction work. We carefully placed each raised bed in its proper location, filled the beds with soil, and started to install the irrigation system.

Students began planting as soon as their class beds inside the fence were filled with soil in early May. Now that the class beds are done, remaining construction work includes building the teacher station potting bench, adding seating in the central area, and finishing the irrigation system installation.

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers, donors, and supporters!
