On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Armstrong Elementary School hosted a joyful and energetic Work Party Build Day for the new school garden.
More than 50 volunteers came together to help turn a long-held dream into a real and growing space for students. Volunteers included members of the Vernon She Shed Society, AES families, school staff, and generous community members from across the North Okanagan.
We worked from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, building and assembling the beautiful new cedar raised beds that will house the school’s first-ever class garden plots. The She Shed team brought tools, tents, and a whole lot of skill, leading the charge on construction. Parent volunteers helped with prep, layout, and ground work. Kids cheered us on (and helped dig a little too!).
By the end of the day, every single cedar garden bed was built, and the first few were carefully placed and leveled into position. These beds will soon be home to vegetables, flowers, and sensory plants that students will plant and care for themselves.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible. Thank you to all of the volunteers who gave their time and energy to help build this beautiful space. Thank you to our generous donors and community partners whose support is helping bring this garden to life.
