AES School Garden Opening Celebration

On June 13th, the Armstrong Elementary School community came together to celebrate the official opening of the new school garden. The event began at 1:00 PM, with all AES students seated in front of the garden alongside parents, community members, donors, sponsors, and volunteers.

Principal Val Edgell opened the ceremony with heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the project, including students, families, staff, volunteers, donors, and local businesses. PAC parent Pia then spoke to the students about their important role in the garden’s future. She highlighted the commemorative stepping stones, each handmade by a class, that now line the pathway. Garden Director MJ Duford followed with a message of gratitude for the school’s staff and administrator, acknowledging their support throughout the garden’s creation.

Then came the big moment: the ribbon cutting! To celebrate, the entire school sang the Garden Song (Inch by Inch, Row by Row). Principal Edgell closed the event with a final thank-you and warm invitation for everyone to tour through the new garden space.

We are so proud of this new space for learning, growing, and gathering. Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible!
