Building the Armstrong Elementary School Garden

Final School Garden Construction Work Party Day

We’re getting close to the finish line with the Armstrong Elementary School Garden, and we’d love your help to complete the last few construction tasks!

Please join us for a Garden Work Party Day on:

Sunday, May 25th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
at the AES School Garden

This work day is a great chance to lend a hand, learn something new, or just hang out and celebrate this beautiful space we’re creating together.

Remaining Tasks

Here are some of the tasks we’ll be working on:

  • Assembling the pre-built wooden potting bench
  • Raking a shallow trench for the main irrigation line
  • Installing irrigation tubing in the 12 class garden beds
  • Installing irrigation tubing along the chain link fence
  • Adding simple utility wash basins onto each side of the potting bench
  • Pulling out weeds and raking the gravel surface flat
  • Planting apple trees along the chain-link fence
  • Attaching trellis netting to the ornamental fence
  • Constructing small trellises for peas and beans to climb
  • Adding kids seating
  • Tidying the build area overall to prepare for the garden opening celebration

If you have a trowel, rake, garden gloves, or watering can, feel free to bring it along, but it’s totally optional.

All are welcome! You don’t need special skills or tools, just bring a water bottle and a sun hat. If you’d rather not build or dig, feel free to stop by and help water plants or simply cheer on the team.

Thank you again to everyone who has helped bring this garden to life. Let’s finish strong together!
