This spring, Armstrong families were surprised to learn that School District 83 has decided to reassign our school’s principal, Val Edgell, to a different school in Salmon Arm.
This decision was made with no local consultation, including our staff, students, parents, or local school board trustee. It comes after a difficult few years at Armstrong Elementary, where our school has faced serious staffing cuts, extended leaves due to staff illness, and the ongoing recovery from pandemic disruptions.
Despite these challenges, Principal Edgell has been a steady and caring leader. She has supported students, staff, and families through an incredibly tough time. She is only two years into her expected five-year term. Removing her now would create unnecessary instability in a school community that needs consistency.
To respond, AES PAC has created a petition titled “Keep Ms Edgell at Armstrong Elementary School.” We’re collecting both online and paper signatures from families and community members who share our concerns. The response has been overwhelming.
So far, we’ve gathered:
- 149 digital signatures on the online petition
- 141 handwritten signatures on our paper petition
That’s nearly 300 voices calling for this decision to be reconsidered. This number that exceeds the total number of students currently enrolled at Armstrong Elementary (267 students – at capacity). Many families include more than one child at the school, and in many cases, both parents have signed, showing just how widespread the support is within our school community.
We invite all interested parents and guardians to add your name and share the petition with others in the community.

Thank you for standing with Armstrong Elementary. Our students deserve stability, support, and strong leadership.
